Legal

Terms of use.

These terms explain how you may use this website, what the information on it is for, and what it is not. Please read them before you rely on anything here.

Draft for review

This page is a working draft. Suncoast Law will review and approve the wording before the website launches.

By using the Suncoast Law website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. The terms apply to every page on this website, including the contact form.

Information only, not legal advice

Everything on this website is general information about the law in British Columbia and about how our firm works. It is written to help you understand the kinds of matters we handle and what to expect when you contact us.

It is not legal advice. Legal advice is guidance from a lawyer that takes your own facts into account. The right answer in a will, a property purchase or a business matter often turns on details that a website cannot know. Please do not act, or decide not to act, based only on what you read here. If you have a legal question, contact a lawyer.

No solicitor–client relationship

A solicitor–client relationship is the formal relationship between a lawyer and a client. It is what makes a lawyer responsible for advising you and acting on your behalf.

Reading this website, sending a message through the contact form, emailing us or calling our office does not by itself create that relationship. Suncoast Law acts for you only once it has confirmed in writing that it will. Until then, Suncoast Law is not acting for you, and we have no duty to act, to meet any deadline or to protect your position.

Before agreeing to act, we need to check that we do not already act for someone whose interests conflict with yours. That is one reason we cannot take on a matter until we have spoken with you and confirmed it in writing.

Please do not send confidential information until we have confirmed we can act

When you first reach out, please keep to the basics: your name, how to reach you, and the general type of matter you need help with. Please do not include documents, financial details or anything you would not want another party to know.

Until we have confirmed in writing that we can act for you, we are not your lawyer. Sending us information we did not ask for may not prevent us from acting for another party in the same matter, and we cannot promise to keep a matter open or protect your position before we have agreed to act. That is another reason to keep your first message to the basics.

Email and web forms are not fully secure ways to send information. We will discuss the safest way to share documents once we are working together. Our privacy policy explains how we handle the personal information you do send us.

Accuracy and currency

We take care to keep the information on this website accurate. Even so, the law changes, and courts and governments update the rules regularly. Content on this site may not reflect the most recent developments, and it may not apply to your situation. We do not promise that the site is complete, accurate or up to date.

We may change these terms and the content of the site at any time without notice. The effective date below shows when the terms were last updated. Your continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
